# Announcement Roles

`role` decides how a screen reader treats each alert: a `note` is read in place and never announced, while an unset role follows the variant (success is a polite `status`, error is an interrupting `alert`). The answer alert takes an element built with DOM calls as its `message`, and the last alert sits inside a form: its action and close buttons are `type="button"`, so clicking them never submits the form.
